Description

The VDRH App is a VR experience that showcases the result of renovation work performed on the Van Doesburg-Rinsema House. The house is designed according to the principles of ‘De Stijl’, a Dutch artistic movement originating in 1917, and features white walls with bright primary colour accents.

Origin

The Van Doesburg-Rinsemahuis, located in Drachten in the Netherlands, was designed in 1920 by Theo van Doesburg according to the principles of ‘De Stijl’. The flamboyant colours were not appreciated by residents at the time and in 1922 they were painted over in more neutral colours.

In 1988 the house was repainted in the original style, although doubt exists about the accuracy of the used colours.

In December 2015 the house’s ownership transferred to the Van Doesburg-Rinsemahuis foundation. The foundation performed a colour-research on the paint layers and Doesburg’s original design documents, and found that the colours from 1988 did not match the original design. Based on this research, the house will be renovated to the original colour palette.

In collaboration with Museum Dr8888 the house was opened to the public on June 1st, 2017. At this time not all renovation work is completed. The VR-app was developed to give visitors the experience of a visit to the completely renovated house through an immersive VR experience.
